In this video Discernment Guilt Trip? -Bereans Not Welcomed Steven Furtick rants against those who take the time to truly study the Word of God. With Furtick he always goes on the deep end by making general accusations against those whom he is speaking against.

In the Bible we are commanded to study the Scriptures in order to validate what we are being taught.

Acts 17:10-11 (New International Version)

In Berea

10As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Notice how these people went to the Word in order to confirm Paul’s message. Paul did not refer to these people as pharisee etc… like Steven Furtick did to describe those of us who use the Bible to validate our beliefs and what we are being taught. Paul uplifted these people as noble in character.

Maybe Furtck does not like the KJV because of its wording in2 Timothy 2:14-16

2 Timothy 2:14-16 (King James Version)

14Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

15Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

I hate to inform CEO Furtick but modern Bibles say the same thing.

2 Timothy 2:14-16 (New American Standard Bible)

An Unashamed Workman

14Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.

15Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

16But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,

Steven Furtick’s rant against Bible study is very revealing about his character and how little value he places on the Word of God. This rant from Furtick explains why he defends Joel Osteen and attacks those of us who contend for the faith against heretics like Osteen.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (New International Version)

13For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

  1. David says:

Did you even listen to what he said? No where did he criticize Bible study, what he was saying is that Studying the Bible and learning about it does you no good, if you don’t apply it into your life to become more like Jesus. You SEVERELY took him out of context.
