2 Timothy 2:14-16 (King James Version)

14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Have you ever wondered what would happen to the church if we threw out Bible study? Ever wonder what would happen if we totally abandoned teaching fellow believers how to discern the truth from a lie by using the Scriptures? Below are a few examples from CEO Pastor Steven Furtick that should make all of us want even more Bible study in our church!

It’s easy to see why Steven Furtick refers to Joel Osteen as a great man of God! When you throw out Bible study and discernment you will fall pray to false teaching, false doctrines, and false prophets.

It’s too bad Furtick does not push true Bible study instead of rants like the above video.

I think Steven Furtick is a scary example of what happens when we forsake and rant against true Bible study in church.

We need more Bible studies and more “line by line and word by word” old fashioned preaching in our pulpits today. By doing this we would have disciples who are well equipped to spread the Gospel because:

  • They would be firmly grounded in God’s Word.
  • They would know why they believe what they believe and will be able to back it up their beliefs with the Bible.
  • They would grow in Grace and draw closer to Jesus thereby wanting to do the will of God.
  • By desiring the will of God, they will go out and spread the Gospel.

The truth is that Satan wants us to forsake putting on the armor of God. Ponder that statement for a little while please.

Ephesians 6:12-17 (New American Standard Bible)

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,

15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;

16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
