Jesus is not my homeboy, JC, or my buddy! Jesus Christ is the Lord

Some people like to portray Jesus like a high school best friend instead Jesus the Lord. It’s like having a best friend who is the son of a powerful politician. Because of his father, we can get a pardon for all of our mischievous law-breaking deeds. With just one whimper to his father, this version of Jesus makes our lawless acts not so bad.  This Jesus belittles sin because he is our buddy and our personal life coach who understands that there are no perfect people. This Jesus is there to guide us as we live in the world, and he is there to teach us how to enjoy modern day culture while still carrying the name of Christ.  This “hip” and “cool” Jesus that allows mankind to remain in the death pit of the world’s sins is a Judas goat, paving the way to Hell with compassion, understanding, relevance, and the need to be accepted.

Jesus Christ is the Lord of lords, and He deserves our respect. It’s disrespectful to call Jesus Christ anything but what He calls Himself in His Word. When we stand before the Lord we will not address Him as homeboy, JC, or my buddy.

Philippians 2:8-11 (NASB)

8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

I must ask you which Jesus do you follow? Are you following the Jesus of the purpose driven emergent mega-church movement who is a life coach that understands your short comings, or are you following Jesus Christ who must be Lord of our lives who demands repentance from sin? Are you following a Jesus who demands holy living or one who understands that you are not perfect, making it alright if you remain in your sin because after all you are human? Are you truly sorrowful when you sin because God hates sin, or do you make excuses because everyone sins? Are you under conviction to repent when you sin, or do you say a little prayer while you keep on sinning? If your Jesus does not demand repentance from sin, then you better check which Jesus you follow because I guarantee you that you are following a false Christ.

Matthew 7:21-23 (NASB)
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
22 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’
23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

The slang-speaking homeboy “buddy” Jesus allows his followers to enjoy the world as if nothing has changed. The life change experience given by this false messiah is a temporary life change to satisfy your need for religion today, but the truth about your salvation will be revealed in Heaven when you stand in judgment before the Lion of Judah.
