I’ve had John Piper on my watch list since I found out about his endorsement of Mark Driscoll. If he truly allows apostate false teacher Rick Warren to speak at Desiring God 2010, then I suggest we all stop promoting John Piper until he repents.

Read more about this here:

Desiring God 2010 National Conference to Feature Rick Warren

It’s with a sad heart that I post this blog about John Piper. I will say that it does not surprise me considering how he has bent over backwards for Mark Driscoll. It’s my prayer that the Lord will work in his heart so that he can see the truth.

People can try to spin this all they want, but the truth is Rick Warren has no business speaking at Desiring God (2 Corinthians 6:14-18). How can we mix the truth with a lie without compromising God’s Word?

I truly hope in the near future I will be posting another blog saying that Rick Warren will not be speaking Desiring God 2010.

Discernment is telling the difference between right and almost right.

Perversion coming from the pulpit is far more deadly than poor Bible translations

  1. Danny says:

You should discern whether or not a conference is a church service. He also had Doug Wilson last year….he turned out to be quite humble and thoughtful.

  2. This is grievous to the heart. Hopefully it is not true but as you said, regardless of what excuses are made, inviting Rick Warren to the DG conference is not right and Pastor Piper of all people should know this. Regarldess of his ‘celebrity status’ and his very biblical approach to many theological matters it will be incumbent on my Christian conscience to cease promoting John Piper unless this is untrue or he repents.

We can only continue to pray for him.

    Grace and Peace

Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord…

John Piper is a godly man who loves the word of God and who has mobilized millions of people to desire God as the supreme satisfaction of life. Don’t be so quick to write him off, millions will agree that very few men on the face of the earth can passionately, accurately and faithfully teach the scriptures as John Piper does. He is not a perfect man, no one is perfect but Jesus Christ. Perhaps he has made a mistake by inviting Rick Warren, or perhaps we will all be amazed by the awesome grace of God to restore even influencial leaders like Rick Warren who have been in error theologicially. I don’t know…just please don’t write off Piper so quickly, it’s not fair. Let’s fight for truth and remain theolgically humble at the same time.

      Jordan.

Thank you Jordan for your evident humility sir…..it is exemplary……much appreciated…thank you for it’s timeliness…..so much confusion desperate need of adjustment – beginning in my heart

I don’t know much about Rick Warren, but one of the few things I do know is that he speaks against the prosperity gospel, frequently and consistently. In fact he speaks against it so clearly that one would have to conclude that he hates it. For example:

“This idea that God wants everybody to be wealthy?”, [Rick] Warren snorts. “There is a word for that: baloney. It’s creating a false idol. You don’t measure your self-worth by your net worth. I can show you millions of faithful followers of Christ who live in poverty.” – Rick Warren

I am commanded by Jesus to know them by their fruits. The very first thing I decided to check out in your comments MRWBBIII turns out to be a lie. The only people accusing Rick Warren of preaching or living a prosperity gospel are people such as you, who cannot substantiate their claims using any reliable source, and who do everything surrounded by a cloud of gossip, bitterness and self-righteousness.

Check out Jonathan Edward’s book: The Religious Affections. In his book, Edwards speaks very clearly about what some people claim is ‘discernment’ and yet is not.

  7. randy says:

James thank you for your good sound comments, I would agree with you.

It seems to me that John Piper has proven to be a man of great biblical discernment.

Sometimes I wonder who the wolves really are.

  8. Randy,

How can you justify John Piper’s discernment when he cannot see that Rick Warren preaches a false gospel? Remember Piper’s words about Warren’s theology as being sound.

The goats cannot see a wolf because they are too busy getting their ears tickled. What’s telling is how goats butt sheep when they call out the wolf’s lies and distortions. A wolf loves goats and blinded sheep.

  9. randy says:

    Thanks David for your comments

Could you please explain how Rick Warren preaches a false gospel – do you know? I think shamefully I jumped on that bandwagon because some of the pastors I enjoyed thought Warren preached a false gospel – then I actually began listening to Warren and read his Purpose Driven book – do I agree with everything absolutely not, what I deliver it differently, yes I do. But a “false” gospel, heretic, wolf – that is a stretch.

Take care you can have your “ears tickled” by fundamentalist, reformed, “sound” preachers. With all the “warning” that happens here – please take care that your eyes don’t stray from the gospel either. I’m going to guess you have never spoken to either Piper or Warren so I think you should step carefully.

  10. something says:

Thank you Randy for being well rounded and sensitive!! May God lead us all to repentance and speaking truth in love!! May fundamentalism cease because God is a God of compassion and slow to anger and keeping us alive through common grace because He’s having mercy on us!!! even as you read this because you sinned the other minute when u didn’t do what you thought would be honoring to God!

    • What's wrong with this picture says:

I truly mean this with all respect and in no way to demean you but you obviously have no clue what authentic fundamentalism is if you think that those that adhere to the idea of authentic fundamentalism does not recognize the God of compassion who is slow to anger and how keeps us alive through common grace because He has mercy on us. I think people with such opinions (though not necessarily yourself) make two God’s out of the God of the bible (ie. God #1 holy, righteous, angry at sin: God #2 compassionate, slow in anger towards us and merciful.) and have little if any knowledge about the history and present state of authentic fundamentalism. Just because they call themselves fundi’s doesn’t mean they authentically are. Don’t be guilty of broadbrushing and wishing the demise of something your immotions taught you by observing false representations of such an idea. Authentic fundamentalism if not the absense of such a God as you suggest.

  11. van says:

    Dear MRWBBIII,

You stink… you’re probably pretty miserable too, I’ve been there.

  12. Steve says:

You all make me so smile…lol
