Luke 9:23 (NIV)

23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

Many times this message is preached from our pulpits as a means of instruction, encouragement, and hope. I truly believe at times, we over look one critical aspect of taking up our cross because we tend to solely focus on the denial of self. While it is a must to deny ourselves daily, it is also equally important to follow Jesus even when following Jesus takes us to a place outside of our comfort zone. In today’s society, I fear many are willing to deny self and follow Jesus as long as it does not put too big of a bulls eye on their back. I’m not saying we are to set out to cause problems, I am saying that we must content for the faith even when we know our stand will bring down man’s wrath upon us. When the times comes are we going to “walk the walk” to go along with all the “talk the talk“? Are we truly willing to take up our cross and follow Jesus?
