I am more afraid of my own heart than of the pope and all his cardinals. I have within me the great pope, Self.- Martin Luther

  1. stan says:

For all the enemies we have, it’s true that our fleshly nature is the most dangerous.
The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? It is out of God’s love for us that we endure his chastisements. God, as a physician, knows the treatment each of his patients need for their eternal well-being and applies them despite our protests. He must, even though, as Lamentations 3:33 says, For He does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men. It is the nature of the “plague of every man’s heart” that determines the medicine. Yet, through it, it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it. God’s goodness is unquestioned.
