Apprising Ministries continues coverage of bromance ER2 where today Todd Friel of Wretched Radio astutely observes we may be seeing a new coalition of contemporary “Evangelephants” emerging.

Frankly, I think ER2 was a scripted Theodrama designed to look like it’s going to be cutting edge; it isn’t. I’m someone who formerly adhered to Word Faith theology early in my Christian walk; and I’ve also personally interacted withT.D. Jakes as you can see in T.D. Jakes Says Ken Silva Is Being Obnoxious.

For now I happen to be a Southern Baptist pastor, as far back as 2006 in But Southern Baptists Say Ok To “Bishop” T.D.Jakes, I’ve been concerned about the heretical Word Faith mogul as he came in to preach at the SBC megachurch of Ed Young. Jr.

In fact, at this same conference former two-time SBC president Dr. Ed Young also shared the platform as well. So, as you might imagine, when the announcement that T.D. Jakes was to be part of ER2 it would naturally catch my attention.

When I investigated further the fetid fruit of ER1 it became pretty clear to me that what was going to happen at ER2 would be a bromance with T.D. Jakes in order to move modalism out of the way so they can bring Jakes into the mainstream of contemporary evangelicalism.

God be praised, I’m afraid I was correct. Tom Chantry provides a transcript of what went on with T.D. Jakes in The Elephant Room II, Session 4 Transcript. For now, I’ll leave you to make up your own mind based upon the evidence.

Here I’ll just share a quick comment from him, which is all too true:

Jakes masterfully deconstructs the entire practice of theology. Don’t be fooled by the panel members who insist that he affirmed the Trinity. What he did was say, “I’m Trinitarian so long as I am free to express it in Sabelian terms.” He repeatedly insisted that Oneness folks and Trinitarian folks are all saying the same thing.

He dismissed the question as secondary – not worth division among the people of Christ, among whom he clearly counts the Oneness churches. Once he has deconstructed the very idea of systematic theology, he can affirm anything. So yes, he answered “absolutely” or “yes” to each and every one of Driscoll’s questions, but what does that mean? Not much. (Online source)

This is precisely what went on in the postmodern obfuscation. Now I’m going to point your attention to the following salient mini-commentary on ER2 today by Dr. James White of Alpha & Omega Ministries via Twitter. He’s one of the few men of God out there with some spiritual backbone.

As such, I’m pleased to bring his tweets together for the edification of the church visible. Sadly, Dr. White is right as he begins:

Next Dr. White hits the target dead on as he tweets:

(Online source)

There was no push-back in ER2; in fact, if I was a lawyer I would have raised the objection of leading the witness. Dr. White goes on to state a cold, hard, fact:

(Online source)

Dr. White then drops the hammer with this tweet:

(Online source)

The Oneness Pentecostal/modalist could not answer yes, in good conscience, to this well-defined question. I could not agree more with the following tweet from Dr. James White concerning the basic message sent in this ER2:

(Online source)

Dr. White then shifted and his question questions directly to T.D. Jakes. First, he tweeted:

Finally, Dr. James White applies the coup de grace to modalistic/Oneness Pentecostalism as he asks Word Faith prosperity preacher T.D. Jakes:

We won’t be holding our breath for Jakes to repsond; he really doesn’t handle faithful Christians very well…

Dear Mark,

I’m going to make this short for a variety of reasons, none of which are important enough to list for others to read.

I wanted to write this not only to express my concerns for your spiritual well-being, but also to thank you. Yes, I am grateful for your ministry, but not perhaps, for reasons you might presume.

I am not impressed with your notoriety. But I am concerned.

I’m concerned that you have recently claimed to be able to ‘see things’, pornographic things, about other people you don’t even know, which, quite frankly, is a claim to powers no one on earth has. Why do you claim such? Doesn’t that make you uncomfortable, knowing that no one else on earth has such powers, and yet, you, for all practical purposes, claim you do? Or, has fame gone to your head to the extent that you have actually believed the press Acts 29 and the Gospel Coalition has promoted about you?

Mark, can you tell the Church where in Scripture that this is a gift from God? It’s an important question, because if you insist you have this gift, and it is not from God, well, you know the rest.

No, if you will be honest, you can’t my friend. Because it isn’t. You have no such powers or abilities, none whatsoever. It makes you look silly when you claim such things, and, I dare say, stupid. Yeah. Stupid, arrogant, self-centered and self-exalting. It’s sad. Sad because it’s everything Christianity isn’t, and yet, you continue to draw followers. I’m not sure what kind of followers – worldy, unregenerate perhaps, but nonetheless, you are drawing followers.

But I love you, man. I think. I’m not sure. I’m not sure because I don’t know if you are a brother in Christ or the enemy who crept in silently, unnoticed and then promoted and mentored by John Piper. I just don’t know. Jury hasn’t read the verdict….but they’re walking into the courtroom to have a seat.

I’m also concerned about this latest tweet of yours:

Now Mark, I don’t care who heard what, whether it was you or the alleged ‘warlock’ who heard God, but when you imply you can determine who is an elect of God…that’s too far man. You’ve lost it. You claim to be God when you have that ability.

Guess what? You’re not God. I wouldn’t let you mow my lawn. You don’t havethat ability, you never did and you never will, ever. You’re nada. In fact, you’re less than nada when it comes to those attributes. Charles Spurgeon suggested chalk on the coat tails for those of you who think you have such abilities, but even Spurgeon didn’t have that one.

Mark, If you hear voices, it’s not God. If you see things. Not from God. If you elect people to salvation, you are not God. Not your department hotshot.

You are a Seattle-based, YRR, religious person. I’ll try real hard to not go further with the adjectives….[delete, delete, delete].

Mark, I am glad, in fact, very thankful, for your ministry. Listen, no one enjoys negative criticism. But honestly, listening to your fantasies is like watching Lethal Weapon 4 in order to establish guidelines for family television use.

I’m thankful for your ministry for one reason, and that only:

Christians need to understand error. You give us error. That error and the struggle that goes with it (we win btw) gives us a clearer grasp of Truth from God. When more believers recognize that, and gain experience standing against mystic knuckleheads (bless your heart) like yourself, the Church grows stronger in its faithfulness to the Lord, a renewed love and devotion for Christ.

And for that, I thank you Mark, I truly do.

In His service,

The other day, just before another DOS attack by enemy forces temporarily crashed AM and its sister outreach Christian Research Network, I pointed you to Grow Up. Settle Down. Keep Reforming. Advice For The Young, Restless, Reformed by Dr. John MacArthur.

Even if we don’t necessarily agree with everything MacArthur teaches, it’s still beyond question that he’s among the elder statesmen in the church visible. For that reason, regardless of what our differences may or may not be, MacArthur is worthy of our respect and he should be listened to carefully.

In the case of the above piece he gave some very good advice to a movement whose leaders are without a doubt involved in some questionable spiritual teaching. One of these in particular is Mark Driscoll, who just might be the Christian version of the mouth that roars.

He seemed to have fired back at John MacArthur in the form of the posting of a:

talk at the Resurgence conference in Orlando, Florida earlier this year.

In this talk, he addresses the four theological distinctives of the current global movement in Christianity: Reformed theology, complementarian relationships, Spirit-filled lives, and missional churches. (Online source)

Unfortunately, in this talk he made some logical category errors and painted history with way too broad a brush, which took him well off-track. Driscoll ended up misrepresenting the cessationist position and equating it with deism and worldliness. As you might imagine this has caused a bit of a stir.

This brings me to Mark Driscoll On Prophetic Dreams and Seeing the Future over at Here I Blog where we find some disturbing information concerning the head of the Acts 29 church planting network. Now this isn’t hearsay or merely someone’s opinion about what Mark Driscoll would supposedly have taught.(source)

I’ve been reading various blogs about John Piper’s endorsement of Rick Warren’s false gospel this week. The one thing that stands out to me is that so many people are willing to accept Rick Warren as a “misunderstood” preacher of the gospel just because of John Piper. This is a disturbing trend within those who should know better! They are quick to compromise the truth because they are in love Piper instead of being in love with the Word. Years ago, when Piper endorsed the “cussing” pastor Mark Driscoll, this act should have sent red flags out to all who love sound doctrine, but instead of standing up for the truth those who follow Piper just made excuses. Now we fast forward to today and Piper has endorsed a false teacher as a teacher of the Gospel!

Mark 13:21-23 (NASB)

21 “And then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ’; or, ‘Behold, He is there’; do not believe him;
22 for false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
23 “But take heed; behold, I have told you everything in advance.

Rick Warren is a false teacher and John Piper has become a Judas goat. When will the excuse making stop? When will people who love sound doctrine stand up for the truth and call out John Piper instead of compromising?

2 Timothy 4:1-5 (NASB)
1 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:
2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,
4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
5 But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Apprising Ministries draws your attention to an interesting tweet last night from New Calvinist leader Mark Driscoll, who heads the Acts 29 Network:

Teaching @ a Foursquare pastors conference tonight & thankful for the invite. (Online source)

Here’s more about this event from Lake Samm Foursquare Church:

I want to invite you to our next “church planters tribe meeting” on May 27th. This meeting is a gathering of church planters past, present and future, and anyone who has a heart to team up with church planting in any way.

I hope you will come and enrich our time with your presence.  I know that we can be mutually encouraged as we learn how to engage the darkness and bring The Light of the world to all people through church planting. (Online source)

More than enough reason for very serious concern; when people who claim to adhere to Reformation theology, then also encourage the younger sector, whom they are particularly popular with, to embrace the spurious spirituality of e.g. Ignatius of Loyola. For actual history shows he founded the Jesuits who were functioning during the Reformation, on order of the Pope, as a militantly pro-Roman Catholic Church spiritual Gestapo Unit. Let’s also keep in mind here that Richard Foster’s spiritual teachings are watered-down enough that he’s even included with the Living Spiritual Teachers Project alongside New Age mystics like Deepak Chopra and Marianne Williamson and even The Dalai Lama.(source)
