We here at DefCon (as well as our brothers and sisters at other sites, such as Ken Silva and Ingrid Schlueter) use the written Word of God as the rule and basis for everything we believe about God and how one is to worship Him. For that, we are constantly accused of being “Pharisees” by those who would lead the Body of Christ away from the clear teachings of Scripture, and into areas which are questionable (at best) and/or heretical (at worst).

Well, here’s my question–what exactly does it mean to be a “Pharisee”? Are we justly accused as Pharisees by the Seeker-Driven™/Purpose-Driven™, “Let’s all just get along in unity” church-goer who does not dare speak for fear that it may offend someone? Or is there a more accurate description of a Pharisee? Let us examine the issue.(source)

You’re likely aware that the online apologetics and discernment work Apprising Ministries has shown you the sinfully ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church—that morphed into Emergence Christianity (EC) was a creation of Leadership Network right along with it Purpose Driven/Seeker Driven Pope Rick Warren. In Emerging Towards Convergence Christian researcher Sarah Leslie at Herescope explains:

We know that the current Emergent Church is a marketing phenomenon, set up as an official movement by Bob Buford’s Leadership Network, a historical fact which we documented in a series of Herescope posts in 2005 and 2006.[2] From its very inception in the 1980s Leadership Network imported a number of leading New Age business “gurus” as “experts” – holding nebulous (if any!) Christian credentials. (Online source)

In recent pieces like Did Brian McLaren Overplay His Hand? and Brian McLaren Invites You On His Quest To Destroy Christianity I’ve shown you that with his new book A New Kind of Christianity (ANKoC) McLaren, now a Living Spiritual Teacher alongside such as Deepak Chopra, the Dalai LamaThich Nhat Hanh, Eckhart Tolle, and Marianne Williamson, has come out of the closet, as it were, and has all but laid out his reimagined i.e. new form of Progessive Christianity aka liberal theology that so many in the EC actually adhere to as well.

With this in mind I point you to an important post from Chris Rosebrough, host of Fighting for the Faith on Pirate Christian Radio, who’s also a contributor to AM’s sister outreach Christian Research Network. Rosebrough begins his piece at Extreme Theology by informing us:

Rick Warren, Bob Bufford and Bill Hybels are the Druckerite “trinity”. All three of these men were personally mentored by the late business guru Peter Drucker and these three men more than any others are responsible for innovating the church by purposely changing congregations from a pastoral leadership model to a CEO / Innovative Change Agent leadership model. All of these innovations were strategically crafted under the careful eye of Peter Drucker. And all of these innovations were incubated, introduced and injected into the church through the coordinated efforts of Drucker’s disciples through their different but intimately connected organizations; Leadership Network, the Purpose Driven Network and the Willow Creek Association.

What many people don’t realize is that the Emerging Church is a product created by and promoted by the Druckerites.

If you don’t believe me then it is time for you to listen to or re-listen to my interview with Doug Pagitt regarding the genesis of the Emerging Church. Pagitt provides us with an expert insiders look at how the Emerging Church came into being and got off of the ground. What you will discover is that without the Druckerites there may have never been an ‘emerging church’. The Druckerites formed, bankrolled and promoted the Emerging Church much the same way a music marketing company might form and promote a boy band like the Backstreet Boys or N Sync.

Here’s the interview… (Online source)

You can listen to Rosebrough’s interview with quasi-universalist Emerging Church leader Doug Pagitt, as well as read in the rest of his article, right here.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. (2 Timothy 4:3-4, NASB)

They tell us it’s “a unique teleseminar event” that will feature 40 “deeply respected spiritual leaders,” such as Marianne Williamson and Barbara Marx Hubbard, “from every major tradition over 40 days.” As you’ll hear below Pagitt pretty much just lets Spong share his myths, until about 7:40 in, the interview takes a distinctly arrogant and condescending turn, which is actually quite common with these neo-liberals and their so-called Progessive Christianity. (source)

Please visit DOUG PAGITT AND JOHN SHELBY SPONG and observe how these heretics are trying to redefine our Christian faith. I’m thankful that Ken Silva faithfully warns us about the dangers of the emergent church.

Listen as this emergent church heretic Doug Pagitt distorts and twist the Christian faith. This is a good example of why we must not allow heretics to spread their poison into the body of Christ. We must expose these heretics and their false teachings.

John 14:5-7 (New International Version)

Jesus the Way to the Father
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

This is a follow-up to the Apprising Ministries piece Doug Pagitt And The Emerging Church Agenda and gives you more evidence concerning the so-called ”conversation” of the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church that morphed into Emergence Christianity (EC). You need to understand that this cult of a postliberalism, now firmly within mainstream evangelicalism, was always a “revolution” with an agenda i.e. they really weren’t wanting to seriously listen to anyone who wasn’t going to get on-board with its desire to infiltrate the mainstream of the church visble.

A leading figure in this de-formation of proper biblical Christianity from its evil beginnings was heretical quasi-universalist pastor Doug Pagitt. In such pieces as Christianity 21: Emerging Voices Of A Pseudo-Christian Faith I warned you concerning the recently concluded EC apostasia-palooza Christianity 21 (C 21), which Pagitt put on along with his equally heretical friend and ”theologian in residence” Tony Jones. I also showed you that C 21 was to have alleged “innovative” and “most important voices for the future of Christianity” who supposedly spoke to “shape the future of our faith.”

C 21 featured such familiar EC names as Phyllis Tickle, the Empress of Emergence Christianity, “queer inclusive” ELCA “pastor” Nadia Bolz-Weber, Makeesha Fisher, Julie Clawson, and gay affirming PCUSA “pastor” Nanette Sawyer. And another C 21 “voice” was Danielle Shroyer who is “pastor” of Journey Church in Dallas, TX, whom I briefly introduced to you in Tony Jones And Courtney Perry Et Al. Yesterday in her post What do you do when a revolution isn’t sexy anymore? Shroyer is quite revealing re. the EC agenda as she writes:

I stumbled into this conversation as an eighteen year old college freshman in Waco, Texas.  A few short years later, I felt as if I’d accidentally been placed among a fabulous group of people who happened to be sitting on top of a revolutionary volcano. It was thrilling, and sexy, and I quite literally believed that we were going to change the world…

I’ll freely admit- I went through a time of mourning that the sexiness of the new revolution is likely behind us.  Those were some great moments.  But then one day, something beautiful dawned on me:  the reason why it doesn’t feel as new and cutting edge anymore is because it worked.  These new ideas actually infiltrated such strange and previously unheard-of places as Bible colleges (who would have thought in 1999 that ANY place, much less a Bible college, would offer a degree in emerging church studies???) and denominational headquarters (whoever would have thought we’d gain the appreciative ear of the Archbishop of CANTERBURY?!) and the shelves of Barnes and Noble (who’d have guessed this conversation would produce stacks and stacks of books that publishers wanted to buy and readers wanted to purchase?!).

Who knew that there would be so many communities of faith across the GLOBE putting this theology and ecclesiology into practice for people trying to find a way to follow Jesus? If Andrew [Jones aka Tall Skinny Kiwi] thinks that 2009 is the year the emerging church conversation ceased to be controversial, it’s because we have convinced enough of the status quo that we’re right

I remember a moment in 2004 at the National Pastors Convention/Emergent Convention in Nashville when Doug Pagitt and I were walking down the hallway.  The evening general sessions were both underway, and as we walked past the door of the NPC session, we noticed there was an artist painting live on stage, and a camera was showing his work and displaying it up on huge video screens overhead for all to see.  We looked at each other, wide-eyed.

The revolution we now call the emerging church movement may  not be as sexy as it once was… But it is far from over…overall, I feel incredibly proud and humbled to have been a tiny, tiny part of what the Spirit is doing in our midst. (Online source, emphasis mine)

We note a couple of things above: 1) Such as these never were going to listen to dissenting views because they already had their own preconceived agenda to change [read: take over] the visible church with their “new ideas” by convincing “enough of the status quo” that they were “right”; and 2) Shroyer just happens to mention Doug Pagitt. This would be the same Doug Pagitt that Andrew Jones, who was also part of it, tells us in Is the Blogosphere Ready for Mark Driscoll? is the very one whom Leadership Network had assemble what “became Terra Nova and then Emergent”.

And any doubt as to the true motives of those in the inner circle of the EC is cleared up for us below by Shroyer in her later response to a commenter on her piece in the combox here:

I’d argue that yes, what has been labeled the emerging church conversation has begun the process of revolutionizing the theology and ecclesiological practices of the Church. We are reforming the traditions and ideas handed down to us by both Protestantism and Roman Catholicism and even Orthodoxy. Further, we are not only rethinking old things and reintroducing forgotten concepts; we are also creating entirely new ones. (Online source)

The issue’s pretty clear: For one to embrace this uber-ecumenical Emerging/ent/ence version of Christianity as a move of God they really must reject the Protestant Reformation. And as we close this out for now, I point you again to a lecture by Dr. Walter Martin (1928-1989) whom even evangelical icon Billy Graham called “the most articulate spokesman for evangelical Christianity that I know.” While speaking circa 1985, because he felt the visible church was “in a rapidly accelerating apostasy,” Dr. Martin would include a lecture on what he had begun to call the Cult of Liberal Theology.

I want you to note carefully what I underlined above in the first quote from Shroyer; as you read the progression Dr. Martin will now show you that liberalism used to take over the dead and dying mainline denominations, pay close attention and you will then see how it is as a Liberalism 2.0 The Emerging Church Is Hijacking Evangelicalism:

There is a progression that takes place in liberal theology: It begins with a corrupt bibliology, a corrupt view of the nature and the inspiration of Scripture. They have a corrupt theology because once you are picking and choosing from the Bible what you want, your theology has to suffer from it, because your human reason is corrupt… every major theological seminary that has turned from orthodox Christianity began with disbelief of Biblical doctrine. There wasn’t a single exception.

This corrupt Bibliology then lead them to the next step. Their theology began to be touched by it, their view of the Cross, the Virgin Birth were both immediately questioned; then came the miracles of Christ… And finally they had emptied the Gospel of all its content; they were simply using the outward shell so that they go on collecting money from the people and the churches; because they knew that if the people in the pew knew that they were apostate, they’d throw them out. So the strategy was hang on to the trust funds; hang on to the money we’ve got; hang on the properties we control, and we will gradually educate the laymen into this new approach to theology.

And then finally we will take control of everything. The gradual process of feeding you theological poison until you become immunized enough so that you don’t know what’s happening to you. And when you wake up to what’s happening to you, it’s too late they’ve got everything. That is not a baseless charge, I stand prepared to prove that the Cult of Liberal Theology in the United States has deliberately and consistently followed this methodology to entrap, control and dominate the denominations and the churches of the United States and our educational institutions. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. (Jude 4, ESV)

Warning: Apostasy In Your Mirror Closer Than You Think

In posts like Meet Outlaw Preachers and Communion With Outlaw Preacher Khad Young recently Apprising Ministries has introduced you to a rather rapscallion bunch, who’ve crowned themselves outlaw preachers and who are now slithering up all around head Outlaw, gay affirming “pastor” Jay Bakker. As I previously pointed out, this growing, largely Biblically illiterate, group of  *cough* “preachers” is currently quite busy Turning God’s Grace Into An Idol.

For more on what is meant by that the interested reader is referred to ELCA, Gospel Reductionism, And Homosexuality; but simply, these “out” laws actually end up as “no” laws. The point being, their message over-emphasizes the grace of God neglecting the conviction of sin, which ends up in an antinomianism. But what’s this got to do with the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church de-formation of the Christian faith—now morphing into Emergence Christianity (EC)?

I’m glad you asked; what’s important for you to know is that, as it continues swallowing up mainstream evangelicalism, it’s also embracing these self-styled outlaw preachers as well. We take for example a couple of EC “Voices” who were supposedly revealing “the way the Christianity will be changing in coming days” at the recently concluded Christianity 21, which was put on by heretical Emerging Church theologian Tony Jones and his equally heretical quasi-universalist Emergent Church pastor Doug Pagitt.

One of them is “queer inclusive” ELCA “pastor,” and former “professional f**k-up,” Nadia Bolz-Weber. In the AM post Outlaw Preacher Nadia Bolz-Weber you’ll see she has announced herself as an outlaw preacher and has already appeared on the Outlaw Preachers precast, hosted by the aforementioned Khad Young, which was the forerunner to the Outlaw Preachers podcast mentioned below. As a matter of fact Bolz-Weber is in this debut episode along with Bakker’s assistant “pastor” Vince Anderson.

And then yesterday EC pastrix Makeesha Fisher, who will be attending the Outlaw Preacher’s Reunion being held at Bolz-Weber’s church in May 2010, tweeted the below because she wanted to make sure those following the errors of this Emerging/ent/ence form of Christianity knew about the:

Outlaw Preachers podcast episode 1 (Online source)

Evangelical leaders can sleep on if they want to, but some of us will continue to attempt to make you aware that the warped and toxic teachings of such as these have been dripping into your Youth Groups and Young Adult classes for years now. As I informed you e.g. in Ex-Homosexual Friend Of Apprising Ministries one of the pet doctrines of these vipers is attempting to convince us that the deviant lifestyle of having sexual relations with another of the same sex, i.e homosexuality, is a viable one for the evangelical Christian.

And this is why AM has been continuing to warn that there’s a very dark and threatening same-sex storm right now approaching hurricane force which is currently only slightly off the coast of your own local church.

With pleasure Apprising Ministries brings to your attention the below segment of the fine Issues, Etc. radio program. In it host Todd Wilken interviews Christian apologist Chris Rosebrough of the Fighting For The Faith program, which is heard on his Pirate Christian Radio network.

Rosebrough had just returned from attending an Emergent Village Gathering honoring Christian Universalist Jurgen Moltmann called Theological Conversation With Jurgen Moltmann. In this clip Rosebrough shares with Wilken the bizarre teachings he heard while there along with pastor Bob DeWaay.

Like the up-coming heresy-fest Christianity 21 the myths of Moltmann was thrown by JoPa Productions, the  company formed by heretical Emergent theologian Tony Jones and his quasi-universalist Emergent Church pastor Doug Pagitt, leading voices in the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church—morphing into Emergence Christianity (EC)—a cult within evangelical Christianity.
