We here at DefCon (as well as our brothers and sisters at other sites, such as Ken Silva and Ingrid Schlueter) use the written Word of God as the rule and basis for everything we believe about God and how one is to worship Him. For that, we are constantly accused of being “Pharisees” by those who would lead the Body of Christ away from the clear teachings of Scripture, and into areas which are questionable (at best) and/or heretical (at worst).

Well, here’s my question–what exactly does it mean to be a “Pharisee”? Are we justly accused as Pharisees by the Seeker-Driven™/Purpose-Driven™, “Let’s all just get along in unity” church-goer who does not dare speak for fear that it may offend someone? Or is there a more accurate description of a Pharisee? Let us examine the issue.(source)

Please visit Defending.Contending to read the rest of this well written article that explains from the Bible the characteristics of a Pharisee.

Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?” And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning ‘made them make and female’, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” (Matthew 19:3-6, NASB)

No Such Thing As Same-Sex Marriage For The Christian

Apprising Ministries has long been covering an issue now—which also touches upon some others within it—that may well prove to be a defining one in our gelatinous generation should the Lord tarry. In articles like The Sin Of Homosexuality Is Different and Growing Gay Agenda In Evangelicalism I’ve been warning you that there’s a very dark and threatening same-sex storm right now approaching hurricane force and which, is currently only slightly off the coast of your own local church.

There is a very plain reason for this; with its open embrace of the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church de-formation of the Christian faith aka Emergent Church—now morphing into Emergence Christianity (EC)—unless God sends revival, mainstream evangelicalism itself will soon stumble upon the same broad path followed by the now mortally wounded mainline denominations, who long ago cut loose their anchor of Sola Scriptura in favor of highly subjective Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism.

If you actually make the time, you’ll see in Emerging Church To Transform Outlaw Preachers that the EC has now completely embraced a rather biblically illiterate, and largely gay affirming, bunch who’ve crowned themselves as Outlaw Preachers (OP). These OPs are rallying around gay marriage advocate “pastor” Jay Bakker, himself now fast friends with heretical EC spokesman Tony Jones, “theologian in residence” at the EC church of his quasi-universalist pastor Doug Pagitt.

But, as I previously pointed out in Outlaw Preachers Khad Young And Jay Bakker Don’t Love Enough their “outlaw” message amounts to antinomianism, a no-law distortion of the grace of God. And what makes these spiritual adulters strange bedfellows is their common antichrist agenda to try and convince us that the deviant lifestyle of having sexual relations with another of the same sex, i.e homosexuality, is a viable one for the evangelical Christian.

You can see a classic example of this in Andrew Marin And Phyllis Tickle where Marin, who is somewhere in between gay affirming EC OPers like “queer inclusive” ELCA “pastor” Nadia Bolz-Weber, and others around the EC taking a more “traditional” stance such as Dan Kimball. In that aforementioned piece Marin tells us Phyllis Tickle—the Empress of Emergence Christianity—“is leading the charge for the Emergent movement” and also introduces her “as a representative of the Church—capital C here”.

Ignoring What The Bible Actually Says In Order To Serve The Self

Tickle then scratches itching EC/OP ears by rehashing long-ago debunked speculations originally posed by what cult expert Dr. Walter Martin (1928-1989) dubbed the Cult of Liberal Theology as she muses:

the church itself is gonna have to come to grips with the fact that, we have changed,…we have evolved—the Law. We now admit divorce, our Lord does not speak much about sexuality; but He’s very clear about divorce. Ah, it’s the only thing He’s really clear about. And we’ve…managed to get around the divorce issue…

The same thing is going to happen with the gay issue; ah, it’s in process…the issue really is—absolute Sola Scriptura; Scripture only, and only Scripture. Ah, did God put a period at the end of Revelation, or did He put a comma?

I happen to think Tickle is right when she says, “The same thing is going to happen with the gay issue…it’s in process”; Tony Jones himself has said, This is the shift that’s taking place in evangelicalism, people. Take a look at what’s been happening just recently in mainline denominations who’ve already injested that kind of spiritual cyanide as Protestant Churches Shifting Toward Affirming Homosexuality, further evidenced by ELCA And Homosexuality and PCUSA Votes To Ordain Lesbian Lisa Larges.

But John MacArthur, one of those the EC considers anathema, was dead-on-target a few years ago when he said:

One of the big issues is homosexuality in the emerging church; they don’t want to take a position on homosexuality. The Bible is not vague, or obscure, or oblique about homosexuality–it couldn’t be more clear.

A homosexual will not inherit the Kingdom of God; that’s pretty clear. Homosexuality in Romans, chapter one, is a perversion that is manifestly–when it happen in a culture–when it begins to dominate a culture, an evidence of Divine wrath and Divine judgment. So the Bible is clear… (Online source)

So in closing this first part, we look quickly at a ludicrous statement from Tickle: “our Lord does not speak much about sexuality.” How pious, “our Lord”; for sure, Satan is very pious. But the opening text I used above flies in the face of those foolish enough to put self at the center; however, it is written in the last days — People will be lovers of themselves (2 Timothy 3:2). Notice carefully that, concerning church doctrine, Tickle takes the emphasis off what God said—“the Law…Scripture”—and instead elevates the fickle feelings of human beings—“we have changed,…we have evolved.”

Again, Tickle is correct…but not the way she thinks. A sad result of the seeker sensitive Church Growth Movement is that evangelicalism has indeed changed; it has evolved…away from God’s Word.

For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. (Jude 4, ESV)

Warning: Apostasy In Your Mirror Closer Than You Think

In posts like Meet Outlaw Preachers and Communion With Outlaw Preacher Khad Young recently Apprising Ministries has introduced you to a rather rapscallion bunch, who’ve crowned themselves outlaw preachers and who are now slithering up all around head Outlaw, gay affirming “pastor” Jay Bakker. As I previously pointed out, this growing, largely Biblically illiterate, group of  *cough* “preachers” is currently quite busy Turning God’s Grace Into An Idol.

For more on what is meant by that the interested reader is referred to ELCA, Gospel Reductionism, And Homosexuality; but simply, these “out” laws actually end up as “no” laws. The point being, their message over-emphasizes the grace of God neglecting the conviction of sin, which ends up in an antinomianism. But what’s this got to do with the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church de-formation of the Christian faith—now morphing into Emergence Christianity (EC)?

I’m glad you asked; what’s important for you to know is that, as it continues swallowing up mainstream evangelicalism, it’s also embracing these self-styled outlaw preachers as well. We take for example a couple of EC “Voices” who were supposedly revealing “the way the Christianity will be changing in coming days” at the recently concluded Christianity 21, which was put on by heretical Emerging Church theologian Tony Jones and his equally heretical quasi-universalist Emergent Church pastor Doug Pagitt.

One of them is “queer inclusive” ELCA “pastor,” and former “professional f**k-up,” Nadia Bolz-Weber. In the AM post Outlaw Preacher Nadia Bolz-Weber you’ll see she has announced herself as an outlaw preacher and has already appeared on the Outlaw Preachers precast, hosted by the aforementioned Khad Young, which was the forerunner to the Outlaw Preachers podcast mentioned below. As a matter of fact Bolz-Weber is in this debut episode along with Bakker’s assistant “pastor” Vince Anderson.

And then yesterday EC pastrix Makeesha Fisher, who will be attending the Outlaw Preacher’s Reunion being held at Bolz-Weber’s church in May 2010, tweeted the below because she wanted to make sure those following the errors of this Emerging/ent/ence form of Christianity knew about the:

Evangelical leaders can sleep on if they want to, but some of us will continue to attempt to make you aware that the warped and toxic teachings of such as these have been dripping into your Youth Groups and Young Adult classes for years now. As I informed you e.g. in Ex-Homosexual Friend Of Apprising Ministries one of the pet doctrines of these vipers is attempting to convince us that the deviant lifestyle of having sexual relations with another of the same sex, i.e homosexuality, is a viable one for the evangelical Christian.

And this is why AM has been continuing to warn that there’s a very dark and threatening same-sex storm right now approaching hurricane force which is currently only slightly off the coast of your own local church.

Purpose driven false teachers

Purpose driven false teachers

But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3:4,5 (ESV)

We have been warned over and over again concerning the emergent “church”, many times before, in many ways, by the likes of Ken Silva, Ingrid Schlueter, Chris Rosebrough and many other among the faithful, defending the biblical doctrines once and for all delivered to the saints long ago.

Yet in spite of such warnings, the movement apparently continues to grow. Disheartening? For the moment, perhaps, yet God remains upon His throne, working out His purposes for His glory…and yes, even by means of wicked men and women.

Which brings me to this: There has been much talk recently regarding the ‘root’ if you will, of emergent thinking. This is good. It is well that those who are concerned know precisely where the source of emergent thinking begins, and quite helpful to be able to track down the progressive trail of such thinking. Imagine discovering a river, and desiring to reveal it’s beginning, to find the smaller body of water, then, the creek, and finally, detecting the origin at a mountaintop.

It’s possible that we have often times become absorbed in the details of doctrinal error to the point we have, at least temporarily, lost sight of the bigger picture. For example, in regards to ‘emergent’ thinking, there is much talk recently of Jurgen Moltman, Hegel and his ilk, all contributing their erroneous view of truth to the present abomination of the emergent mindset. Wonderful, and much needed information! However, I think it good, and profitable, to step back, and once again see where Moltman, Hegel, and not coincidently, the emergent leaders of today have derived their foul teachings and the source of their deliberate deception of the people of God. Yes, I know, we can all say ‘It’s because of sin.” True. But sin doesn’t merely cause folks to be blurred in regard to the truth. No, sin has done far more damage than that.

We, as Christians, can talk until our faces are the proverbial blue, but until we realize the very basic, biblical foundation of the emergent mentality, it does little good to speak of Moltmann, etc to those who are unfamiliar with the foundational pile of dung from which comes ‘emergent christianity’.

So then, in the words of Chris Rosebrough, “we continue…”

I have every confidence in saying that from Rick Warren to Nadia Bolz-Weber and everyone in between…and below…., none of the emergent leaders are pleased with being reminded that they are not God. They are mere creatures.

If you look at the quote at the beginning of this article, you will see Satan’s temptation to Eve. “You will be as God.” Since the fall of man, many have taken that bait, again and again. It is now their nature to do so. They crave it, rebellion that is. After all, Satan promised Adam and Eve divinity, and they took the bait. Eve was wrong because she did not take into account the revealed will of God. Mankind struggles with the same infirmity to this day.

The leading voices of the emergent church are trampling on God’s revealed will through His only Word to man, the Bible. They are spitting on His revealed Word. “Holiness and separation from the world be damned, we will have our way, we shall be as God.”

Yet determining right from wrong, good from evil is the absolute prerogative of God Almighty. No other. It has been said:

Identitfy the source of moral authority in any society, and you have identified the god of that society” (Greg Mills).

Even a cursory view of Scripture reveals the fact that the practice of living out a belief system that man determines right from wrong for himself is rebellion against God.

In our present day, biblical morality, a result of true regeneration by the work of the Holy Spirit of God, is being lost as men and women – in this case, the voices of the emergent church – continue to attempt to to be their own god by determining right and wrong both for themselves and for others, despising the Word of God,… despising God Himself by rejecting His revealed truth in the Word and any notion of coming judgment by the Son of Man, Jesus Christ.

The leading voices of the emergent church are not merely rebelling, they are leading an assault on the very prerogative of God Himself, in determining good from evil, as generations of unregenerate souls have done for so very long.

They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” – Rev. 6:10

In posts such as Contemplative Spirituality Growing Within Mainstream Evangelicalism and The Nightmare Beginning For Mainstream Evangelicalism here at Apprising Ministries I’ve been attempting to alert you to a very dark and threatening same-sex storm that is right now approaching hurricane force, and which is currently only slightly off the coast of the mainstream evangelical community. And further, that the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church—morphing into Emergence Christianity—(EC) is right now working to make affirming homosexuality an issue within your own mainstream evangelical church. This is why I’ve been doing what we can to send you clear warning concerning the grave danger of kicking out Sola Scriptura in favor of highly subjective [i.e. feelings-oriented] Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM).

With stories like you’ll see below mainstream evangelicalism is getting still another peek at its own impending future. And the reason for this is really rather simple; by circa the 1960s most mainline Protestant denominations had already opened themselves to CSM, and now just look at what’s happening within them. As evidenced by the recent vote to affirming clergy openly committing same-sex sexual immorality and the lunacy in the Lord’s Name of a woman ”Queer Affirming” Lutheran ”pastor” defend it in Nadia Bolz-Weber Weighs In On ELCA Church-Wide Assembly. (source)

I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone when I read what is going on in the American Church. It’s like watching an episode of the Twilight Zone that takes place on a world without Sola Scriptura.

This issue is too important for those of us in Christ to sit around and do nothing. We must contend for the faith and never stop beating the drum of Sola Scriptura.

Pastor Ken Silva has been following these rebels for a while now. He has written some very good articles exposing this heresy creeping into the Christian faith.

“Outlaw Preachers” is a good name for these liberals. These humanistic teachers are trying to hijack the authority of the Holy Scriptures by replacing them with emotional justifications . These outlaws seek to redefine the teachings of the Scriptures concerning the sin of homosexuality. The Scriptures are very clear about homosexuality as sin.

“Outlaw Preachers” seek more than just taking homosexuality out of the sin category. You can be sure that this is just the tip of the iceberg. They are part of a larger liberal movement that seeks to destroy the orthodox doctrines of the Christian faith replacing them with a substitute consumed with the spirit of anti-Christ!

“These self-proclaimed outlaw preachers are now beginning to band together—chiefly around Jay Bakker—in order to sow their perversion of the grace of God, which ala the original cult of liberal theology so over-emphasizes the love and grace of God they end up obliterating His justice.” Ken Silva source

I recommend following Pastor Ken Silva’s exposing this heresy at APPRISING MINISTRIES.

We cannot stand back and let heretic rebels like Jay Bakker abuse the Grace of God.

Romans 6:1-3 (New American Standard Bible)

Romans 6

Believers Are Dead to Sin, Alive to God

1What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?

2May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?

3Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?
