Purpose driven false teachers
But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3:4,5 (ESV)
We have been warned over and over again concerning the emergent “church”, many times before, in many ways, by the likes of Ken Silva, Ingrid Schlueter, Chris Rosebrough and many other among the faithful, defending the biblical doctrines once and for all delivered to the saints long ago.
Yet in spite of such warnings, the movement apparently continues to grow. Disheartening? For the moment, perhaps, yet God remains upon His throne, working out His purposes for His glory…and yes, even by means of wicked men and women.
Which brings me to this: There has been much talk recently regarding the ‘root’ if you will, of emergent thinking. This is good. It is well that those who are concerned know precisely where the source of emergent thinking begins, and quite helpful to be able to track down the progressive trail of such thinking. Imagine discovering a river, and desiring to reveal it’s beginning, to find the smaller body of water, then, the creek, and finally, detecting the origin at a mountaintop.
It’s possible that we have often times become absorbed in the details of doctrinal error to the point we have, at least temporarily, lost sight of the bigger picture. For example, in regards to ‘emergent’ thinking, there is much talk recently of Jurgen Moltman, Hegel and his ilk, all contributing their erroneous view of truth to the present abomination of the emergent mindset. Wonderful, and much needed information! However, I think it good, and profitable, to step back, and once again see where Moltman, Hegel, and not coincidently, the emergent leaders of today have derived their foul teachings and the source of their deliberate deception of the people of God. Yes, I know, we can all say ‘It’s because of sin.” True. But sin doesn’t merely cause folks to be blurred in regard to the truth. No, sin has done far more damage than that.
We, as Christians, can talk until our faces are the proverbial blue, but until we realize the very basic, biblical foundation of the emergent mentality, it does little good to speak of Moltmann, etc to those who are unfamiliar with the foundational pile of dung from which comes ‘emergent christianity’.
So then, in the words of Chris Rosebrough, “we continue…”
I have every confidence in saying that from Rick Warren to Nadia Bolz-Weber and everyone in between…and below…., none of the emergent leaders are pleased with being reminded that they are not God. They are mere creatures.
If you look at the quote at the beginning of this article, you will see Satan’s temptation to Eve. “You will be as God.” Since the fall of man, many have taken that bait, again and again. It is now their nature to do so. They crave it, rebellion that is. After all, Satan promised Adam and Eve divinity, and they took the bait. Eve was wrong because she did not take into account the revealed will of God. Mankind struggles with the same infirmity to this day.
The leading voices of the emergent church are trampling on God’s revealed will through His only Word to man, the Bible. They are spitting on His revealed Word. “Holiness and separation from the world be damned, we will have our way, we shall be as God.”
Yet determining right from wrong, good from evil is the absolute prerogative of God Almighty. No other. It has been said:
“Identitfy the source of moral authority in any society, and you have identified the god of that society” (Greg Mills).
Even a cursory view of Scripture reveals the fact that the practice of living out a belief system that man determines right from wrong for himself is rebellion against God.
In our present day, biblical morality, a result of true regeneration by the work of the Holy Spirit of God, is being lost as men and women – in this case, the voices of the emergent church – continue to attempt to to be their own god by determining right and wrong both for themselves and for others, despising the Word of God,… despising God Himself by rejecting His revealed truth in the Word and any notion of coming judgment by the Son of Man, Jesus Christ.
The leading voices of the emergent church are not merely rebelling, they are leading an assault on the very prerogative of God Himself, in determining good from evil, as generations of unregenerate souls have done for so very long.
They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” – Rev. 6:10
