I know a lot of discussion has surrounded the heresy of Modalism lately due to T.D. Jakes’s star appearance on the seeker-sensitive sitcom known as the Elephant Room 2. There is another rank heresy that challenges the very nature of God which is just as bad as Modalism. Those who teach that Jesus is not the eternal Son of God are also attacking the very core nature of our Lord. The truth is that God never changes and He has existed eternally as The Father, Son and Holy Spirit three but yet One(Hebrews 13:8).

It was deeply encouraging when John MacArthur repented of his error of denying the eternal Sonship. See: Reexamining the Eternal Sonship of Christ

I personally believe denying Christ’s eternal relationship within the Trinity is as deadly as what Modalism teaches. I would encourage all my readers to ponder what I have written today.

Apprising Ministries continues coverage of bromance ER2 where today Todd Friel of Wretched Radio astutely observes we may be seeing a new coalition of contemporary “Evangelephants” emerging.

Frankly, I think ER2 was a scripted Theodrama designed to look like it’s going to be cutting edge; it isn’t. I’m someone who formerly adhered to Word Faith theology early in my Christian walk; and I’ve also personally interacted withT.D. Jakes as you can see in T.D. Jakes Says Ken Silva Is Being Obnoxious.

For now I happen to be a Southern Baptist pastor, as far back as 2006 in But Southern Baptists Say Ok To “Bishop” T.D.Jakes, I’ve been concerned about the heretical Word Faith mogul as he came in to preach at the SBC megachurch of Ed Young. Jr.

In fact, at this same conference former two-time SBC president Dr. Ed Young also shared the platform as well. So, as you might imagine, when the announcement that T.D. Jakes was to be part of ER2 it would naturally catch my attention.

When I investigated further the fetid fruit of ER1 it became pretty clear to me that what was going to happen at ER2 would be a bromance with T.D. Jakes in order to move modalism out of the way so they can bring Jakes into the mainstream of contemporary evangelicalism.

God be praised, I’m afraid I was correct. Tom Chantry provides a transcript of what went on with T.D. Jakes in The Elephant Room II, Session 4 Transcript. For now, I’ll leave you to make up your own mind based upon the evidence.

Here I’ll just share a quick comment from him, which is all too true:

Jakes masterfully deconstructs the entire practice of theology. Don’t be fooled by the panel members who insist that he affirmed the Trinity. What he did was say, “I’m Trinitarian so long as I am free to express it in Sabelian terms.” He repeatedly insisted that Oneness folks and Trinitarian folks are all saying the same thing.

He dismissed the question as secondary – not worth division among the people of Christ, among whom he clearly counts the Oneness churches. Once he has deconstructed the very idea of systematic theology, he can affirm anything. So yes, he answered “absolutely” or “yes” to each and every one of Driscoll’s questions, but what does that mean? Not much. (Online source)

This is precisely what went on in the postmodern obfuscation. Now I’m going to point your attention to the following salient mini-commentary on ER2 today by Dr. James White of Alpha & Omega Ministries via Twitter. He’s one of the few men of God out there with some spiritual backbone.

As such, I’m pleased to bring his tweets together for the edification of the church visible. Sadly, Dr. White is right as he begins:

(Online source)

Next Dr. White hits the target dead on as he tweets:

(Online source)

There was no push-back in ER2; in fact, if I was a lawyer I would have raised the objection of leading the witness. Dr. White goes on to state a cold, hard, fact:

(Online source)

Dr. White then drops the hammer with this tweet:

(Online source)

The Oneness Pentecostal/modalist could not answer yes, in good conscience, to this well-defined question. I could not agree more with the following tweet from Dr. James White concerning the basic message sent in this ER2:

(Online source)

Dr. White then shifted and his question questions directly to T.D. Jakes. First, he tweeted:

(Online source)

Finally, Dr. James White applies the coup de grace to modalistic/Oneness Pentecostalism as he asks Word Faith prosperity preacher T.D. Jakes:

(Online source)

We won’t be holding our breath for Jakes to repsond; he really doesn’t handle faithful Christians very well…

ELEPHANT ROOM 2: MAY WE NOW REGARD T.D. JAKES AS TRINITARIAN AND ORTHODOX?

ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: T.D. JAKES AND PAULA WHITE

We here at DefCon (as well as our brothers and sisters at other sites, such as Ken Silva and Ingrid Schlueter) use the written Word of God as the rule and basis for everything we believe about God and how one is to worship Him. For that, we are constantly accused of being “Pharisees” by those who would lead the Body of Christ away from the clear teachings of Scripture, and into areas which are questionable (at best) and/or heretical (at worst).

Well, here’s my question–what exactly does it mean to be a “Pharisee”? Are we justly accused as Pharisees by the Seeker-Driven™/Purpose-Driven™, “Let’s all just get along in unity” church-goer who does not dare speak for fear that it may offend someone? Or is there a more accurate description of a Pharisee? Let us examine the issue.(source)

Please visit Defending.Contending to read the rest of this well written article that explains from the Bible the characteristics of a Pharisee.

Oneness Pentecostal and Word Faith mogul “Bishop” T.D. Jakes, fresh off his stint preaching for Southern Baptist pastor Ed Young, Jr again, will also be a featured speaker for Bill Hybels and Willow Creek Church this summer.

Despite his denial of the Trinity, i.e. the very nature of God, there right alongside Hybels, Andy Stanley, and some others, T. D. Jakes is scheduled to speak at The Global Leadership Summit 2010 coming up this August 5-6.

And doctrinal differences continue to be erased as below is video of T.D. Jakes who’ll also appear, along with Ed Young, Jr and Andy Stanley, for a second time at the Hillsong Conference 2010 in July.

T.D. JAKES AND ONENESS PENTECOSTALISM (AKA MODALISM)

BUT SOUTHERN BAPTISTS SAY OK TO “BISHOP” T.D.JAKES

Joel Osteen is yet another example of how a false teacher can prey upon mankind’s burning desire for religion. Thousands upon thousands of people flock to churches that appeal to their religious wants and fill their hearts with the hope that is found in humanity. This hope in self is very powerful because most of humanity strives to be good people and to do the best they can. Some who attend these graveyards called churches are drawn by the lure of riches and wealth, some are drawn by the promise of physical healing, and others are drawn because they want to do good. It’s not hard to build a church upon the needs of the people by appealing to their culture, their wants, and by building up their hope in their own good works.

I could start a church with a goal to be relevant and non-offensive to the un-churched. I could design this church to cater to the un-churched and create an atmosphere full of energy and good works. I could encourage all my people to volunteer to do the work of the church. I could create a church that is warm and welcoming where no perfect people are allowed, thus proclaiming that we all sin and taking away our right to judge our brother/sisters. I could preach sermons designed to uplift the people’s needs and perform series designed to help people with real life needs. I could have cool modern music with an awesome worship experience to pump-up the service by creating an emotionally charged atmosphere where I can convince my people to say “Jesus” and “I accept Jesus in my heart!” By doing this, I could have a huge church in 3 to 5 years, raking in millions per year. Once I start racking in millions per year, I could put heavy emphasis on token good works programs around Christmas, New Year, etc… all in order to get my church known around the community. I could then pattern the church as a business to make money and keep the church profits increasing. In the end, I could easily be a millionaire in less then 10 years without the community thinking too much about it because of all the good works my church does. By doing this, I am appealing to the religious nature of mankind and mankind’s desire for religion. I would be using culture, music, relevant sermons, people’s willingness to volunteer, and my talents to lure people to this new church. I would project my vision to the people and be like a cheerleader always encouraging them to volunteer and tithe because God is working at my church. In the end, I would have a church full of carnal Christians, Christians who will never mature because I would not be feeding them, and false confessions because repentance is not taught. My church would be no different than the world around it with the exception of the name of Jesus being proclaimed, and my back door would be as wide open as my front door due to the nature of how these types of churches work. The world would look upon my work as successful and praise all the good works because lives are being changed by my work.

In the above example, what is missing is the true Gospel being preached and allowing the Holy Spirit to do His job by drawing sinners to Himself thus convicting them of their sin. I would never follow the pattern I listed in this blog because it is not the way God told us to grow the Kingdom of God. I had rather preach/teach the Word of God in truth and love by preaching the whole council of God and depend on God to honor the preaching of the Gospel by the Holy Spirit. The Gospel is enough, and it will always be enough to spread the good news of what Jesus Christ has done for all of us. I had rather work a full-time job along side of preaching while struggling to pay the bills rather than to build a church upon what God said is sin. My Lord Jesus Christ was poor, and who am I to think that I am better than my Lord? My Lord promised to provide all my needs; therefore I rely upon Him to care for me.

I know some of you might be offended by this post, but I stand by my words. God is not in the business of popular consent because God only wants us to obey Him. In the Bible God told us not to marvel if the world hates us John 15:18-20. The Gospel is hostile to the world because the Gospel tells mankind how incapable man is to save himself. It is because of the hostility mankind has toward God that we must preach the Gospel and depend on the Holy Spirit to convict sinners. We cannot save anyone, and we cannot lead people to Christ unless the Holy Spirit is working within them. No matter how much emphasis we put on worship, reaching them by culture, music, bake sales, youth camps, playgrounds, bingo, good works, etc… the only thing that leads people to Jesus is the preaching of the Gospel.

We should do good works and help those in need. I’m not disputing this because we are commanded to help those in need. We are commanded to preach the Word to the children of God and to prepare them to take the Gospel out to the world. The church is a place for the saved to grow in grace in order to mature as followers of Christ. The church is also for whoever will come in to hear the preaching, but the church should not cater just to the un-churched. It is the responsibility of the pastor to equip the church by the preaching of the Bible to prepare them for life’s trials, to uplift them, to admonish them in love, and to prepare them to go out and witness to the world. By doing this we depend on the Holy Spirit to do His job as we strive to follow the commandments the Lord has given us in His Word.

I believe in simply following the Bible’s outline for building and growing a church. We as Christians can have fun, laugh, worship, enjoy the service, and desire to be at church. My concern is how so many times modern churches fall prey to the numbers game while depending on themselves to draw people in by appealing to culture. Christianity in itself is a culture that never changes and has not changed for thousands of years. Jesus said that we are like a city lit upon a hill for the world to see Matthew 5:13-15. The world is in darkness, and we cannot appeal to them by using darkness to lure them to the light. If we set our hearts to sell out 100% and follow what God told us to do, then we will be the light for the world to see because we are at peace. Our lives will reveal the new creation that Christ has performed within us to those without Christ, thus showing them the power of the Gospel. It’s not about us; it’s about Jesus, and glory should be given solely to Him.

I know this is a lot. It may seem like a rant, but this was on my heart. It breaks my heart to see the name of Christ smeared and abuse by these greedy, self-serving, non-caring hired hands. Apostasy and false teachings can only exist in the church when the Word of God is ignored. In America we need to wake up and see these greedy hirelings, false teachers, and false prophets for what they are: servants of self and slaves to the father of lies. If this cancer is allowed into the church, it will only grow to destroy the church from the inside out. A sure way to destroy any church is to allow false teachers like Rick Warren, Andy Stanley, Rob Bell, Benny Hinn, Joyce Meyer, T.D. Jakes, Jay Bakker, and Joel Osteen in the door.

CEO Perry Noble from NewSpring Church knows no boundaries when it comes to learning from other preachers. With Noble the evidence of God’s blessing comes in the form of numbers rather than from actually teaching and following the commandments of God.

I have a philosophy of ministry that I used to not have–here it is, I can learn something valuable from any ministry that God is blessing–period!

I want to learn from people who do ministry differently than me…and it is amazing to me how stupid and insecure pastors and church leaders are when it comes to this.

For example–anytime I mention TD Jakes or Joel Osteen on this website we have idiots e-mail in with their “concerns” about issues in regards to their theology or teaching style. (As if the person e-mailing is perfect and has it all figured out!) (source)

Perry Noble resorts to his typical name calling and character attacks. What Noble fails to accept is that the Bible is the perfect Word of God and it is our final authority in matters of our faith. When heretics like Joel Osteen calls the Mormon Church Christian this goes far beyond Noble’s blind-eye carnal defense. The Word of God condemns Osteen’s defense of the false gospel of Joseph Smith.

2 Corinthians 11:3-5 (New American Standard Bible)

3But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.

4For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.

5For I consider myself not in the least inferior to the most eminent apostles.

Galatians 1:6-8 (New American Standard Bible)

Perversion of the Gospel

6I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel;

7which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.

8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!

Why does Perry Noble scoff at the Scriptures? All one has to do is read the Scriptures and then listen to Joel Osteen to see that Osteen is a false teacher. Why does Perry Noble say that God is blessing Osteen? The answer is Noble only see’s a big church and the dollar sign!

BUT, I’ve said it before and I will say it again…I have an incredible amount of respect for both of those men. God is blessing their ministries in an incredible way…and I know there are tons of things that I could learn from them. Just because you are trying to learn something from someone doesn’t mean that you believe exactly like them!

(And for those who feel like you can only learn from just like you…please repent to God for being shallow and ridiculous!) (source)

It’s Noble who should repent and stop scoffing at the Scriptures. It is Noble that said that God is blessing heretics like Joel Osteen and false teachers like TD Jakes. TD Jakes said that all religions lead to Heaven (John 14:5-7).

Pay special attention how Perry Noble attacks people who speak out against these two false teachers and how Noble pardons the Satanic lies both Osteen and Jakes teach. Noble pardons the false teachers and attacks the Christians contending for the faith. Do you see a problem here?

#6 – What if pastors spent more time focusing on God’s Word and their own church rather than attempting to be watchdogs of everyone else’s ministry?

Dang…that was good…even if I say so myself!!!

I’ve got to be honest…I really don’t have time to tear down the ministry efforts of others. Seriously, I’ve got enough to be concerned about in trying to be a good husband, father and pastor. The day I have the time to rip apart other people’s ministry is the day that my ministry will be fruitless and dead.

(That’s the only way I would have the time…you see, if a vineyard is producing fruit then you really don’t have the time to peak at the perceived fruitfulness–or unfruitfulness–of others.)

I once heard TD Jakes say, “The problem with most pastors is that they never leave the locker room–they always feel the need to compare!” WHEW!

Pastors…you and I can experience TRUE freedom when we compare ourselves to our calling and God’s vision for our ministry and NOT the church down the road or across the country! We will not be held accountable for their ministry–we will be held accountable for ours! (Hebrews 13:17) (source)

Seems that Noble does not take his own advice. I’ll list some Scriptures to help Perry Noble in his quest to focus more on God’s Word. God considered it important enough to warn us about false teachers and false prophets.

Romans 16:17-20 (New American Standard Bible)

17Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.

18For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.

19For the report of your obedience has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil.

20The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

Mark 13:21-23 (New American Standard Bible)

21“And then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ’; or, ‘Behold, He is there’; do not believe him;

22for false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect.

23“But take heed; behold, I have told you everything in advance.

2 Peter 2:1-3 (New American Standard Bible)

2 Peter 2

The Rise of False Prophets

1But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.

2Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned;

3and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Birds of a feather flock together. When you look at the people Perry Noble wants to meet, you will see a common problem within all these people.

Refer here for more about Perry Noble’s love of the world and poor discernment.

1 John 4:1-3 (New American Standard Bible)

1 John 4

Testing the Spirits

1Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

2By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;

3and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

The fruit of Perry Noble is poisonous and sour. His spiritual discernment is defiled by his love of the world. Beware of this false teacher!
