A seeker-sensitive life coach pastor is the ultimate cheerleader when it comes to uplifting those who promote his vision. He is there to push his people to volunteer, to invite people to church, and to encourage his people to be positive. He is there as the supreme spiritual leader and the example for his people to follow. He boasts constantly about the great works of his church and how lives are being changed; this is done as verbal rewards to those who faithfully $buy$ into his vision. He is completely sold out to make his vision a reality and eagerly thanks all those who have made it possible. As long as he is not questioned, he is the most positive man in the church.

When asked to use the Scriptures in context(2 Timothy 2:15) to backup his vision and methods(Acts 17:11), this same man who is so upbeat and willing to take extreme measures to reach the lost, will transform into the world’s biggest detractor of the very Word of God he proclaims to preach.

I figured it was about time to share some of the comments I receive from those in the seeker-sensitive movement. I just picked a few to share out of the hundreds I’ve received this year.

Defending Furtick:

This is a disgrace. Nobody agrees with you, at all. Pastor Furtick is serving God and doing what God has called him to do. He is changing lives because of what God is doing through him and Elevation Church. Its not a competition at all. He is a man of God, something you OBVIOUSLY are not. I’m disgusted by you, whoever you are. Find something else to do with your time, maybe pray to God for forgiveness first. It’s a good thing your video doesn’t have an affect on any of us except disappointment!

You idiot. Get a hobby

I’m just honestly disgusted by the comments left here. @buzzbbird I’m so glad that you just blatantly condemned and judged a man’s eternal destination based on a video he made that is ALL ABOUT TRYING TO CHANGE THE WORLD for Christ. Ever hear his sermons? (Coming from a Bible Major), All Cross centered, Gospel focused and usually exegetically (look it up) developed. He even did a series on SIN (“Scarecrow in a Mellon Patch”… on Podcast). Or is he condmened for using Podcasts too? 😦

I wouldn’t give a squirt of piss for anything this fundamentalist douche bag has to say.(Directed to me…such a nice person)

this church is the most legit I have ever seen! It is undeniable the work and anointing that is on this church! If you think you are better and more righteous… then go lead 22,000 people to Jesus Christ in 5 years!  Didn’t think so

He left his job, risked his financial wellbeing, and uprroted his family to start elevation church. What have you done for Jesus, lately?

Steven Furtick is an amazing man of God! Have you ever read his book or listened to his sermons? He is filled with the Holy Spirit and NOT a disgrace to God!

Defending Perry Noble and New$pring Church:

Defending NewSpring:

bro have you ever even been to newspring in your life? were you at the service where they talked about sexed? and how dare you take scripture out of context to make it fit something  you want.

BAMF means

get off of newsprings case for the little things that dont matter

it means go do what really matters

it says in the bible to go and make disciples of all nations

is that not what we are doing

it does not say in the bible “and the lord god said go and bash other churches, tear down their ideas, and criticize their leaders and motives”

NewSpring is one of the MOST AMAZING Churchs you will ever go ot and if you cant handle the truth and what they preach why do you judge them? All preachers are different and if thats how he gets the word out then let him and you stay out of it. If your so CHRISTIAN Why do you judge people?

It’s sad that we would spend more time judging Men of God based on “traditional” church. The method my change, but Gods work will stay true forever. No one is perfect. So, why don’t we make videos that will bring someone to Christ. Non-Christians see stuff like this and this is why they don’t go to church. Christians shouldn’t be like this. God is the final judge and his judgement is all that matters! God bless. Let’s lift Perry up and let God show him any corrections he needs to make

you people are well on your way to hell! anyboby who has the time to post something like this is gonna get a one way ticket.unless you attend newsprings you wouldnt know anything about it!

Dremias5545 right now I’m praying for you. I pray for God to do a work in your heart. I pray that you would never ever post another video like that (the newspring one) because you are confusing people in their faith with Christ and that is scary place my friend.

watched your video about newspring & how they say every dime goes to missions. You’re an idiot. thx.

you’re ridiculous

dude, you’re videos bashing perry noble are ridiculous. he is not a hireling. he is not greedy. just today he preached a sermon about tithing and offering. the bible makes many references on giving and not just giving anything, but giving your best. perry also went further, even though he was in no way obligated to do so, he stated that he GAVE his best and offerings to the church as well. these “group sessions” that he charges pastors to attend would might be an issue, except for the fact that perry gives ALL of that money to NewSpring. perry has also made $80,000 in the past three years from “outside” speaking, ALL OF WHICH WAS GIVEN TO NEWSPRING. perry is also getting ready to sign his first book deal, and guess where ALL of the profits from that book selling are going to go? you guessed it, its ALL going to newspring. listen man, as long as perry is preaching the word of the lord, giving his ten percent in tithing, AND going above and beyond and giving offerings, it shouldn’t matter how much he makes. children of the lord deserve to be blessed. if GOD wanted, he could take EVERYTHING from perry. when you tithe, you arent giving to the church. you are giving back to Christ through the church.

now with that being said, HOW MUCH DO YOU GIVE? do you give your mandatory ten percent that God has commanded you to give? do you go above that and give offerings? HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU MAKE? if you think that is none of my business, what makes you think that perry’s salary is any of your business? if you aren’t giving your ABSOLUTE BEST to the body of Christ, then you definitely need to spend more time focusing on that rather than creating these videos about how much money perry noble makes. football coaches make more money than perry. come on man…i do realize that there are many pastors who are money hungry, but perry is not one of those men.

Words of warning from seeker-sensitives:

You are not advancing the kingdom, you are dividing it. Please do not post hate speech about a prosperous ministry because you believe “preachers should be poor.” It’s religious thinking, its divisive, and it can send a person teetering on the edge of “do I want to try Jesus or not” to simply say no and move on in their lives continuing in defeat. I challenge you to use your abilities to create video’s and make some that lift of the name of Jesus, and not tear down leaders that are doing something for the kingdom. You cant argue with results. If you disagree with someone, pray for them. Its not your responsibility to be their judge and jury on a public forum like youtube! Thats the worlds mindset! Lets point the splinter so no one see’s our plank. I will pray for you that God softens your heart to the needs of his church and a dying world that needs the gospel preached to them.

Your comment about Perry Noble

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the reason why they charge $100 a person is because the people that attend that conference get materials and resources to use and their own church? About a month ago over 900 people got baptized and during our easter series alone over 1000 peopl accepted christ. We are changing lives…you are trying to ruin them….Plus, read the old testament…prime example of why you wouldn’t want to mess with God’s appointed.

Your videos

As I look over your videos, it is clear to me that you either struggle from an enormous amount of jealousy, or you have no biblical understanding. for you to critique Steven Furtick and Perry Noble is kind of like a middle school all star critiquing Michael Jordan. How can you justify posting videos about men when you have no idea what you are talking about? When you have accomplished a fraction of what these men have, you may at least not look quite so ignorant in your zeal. But it will be no more biblical. Oppose those who oppose Christ. Leave other Christians alone.

stop trying to be all formal about everything

in closing

shut up and quit being a pharisee

newspring church member

see its annoying and unnecessary isnt it?

What’s really sad is how these people are deceived by Perry Noble and Steven Furtick. The fruits of Noble and Furtick are sour to the core.-David J

Matthew 7:15-18 (NASB)

A Tree and Its Fruit

15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.

Perry Noble, is the most abusive beater of Christ’s sheep that I’ve ever heard. Why anyone would allow themselves to be abused by this man is beyond me. Here is the latest example of “Pastor” Perry’s abusiveness.

This is a segment from the June 30th, 2011 episode of the Fighting for the Faith radio program.(source)

I am amazed that so many people put up with this hireling(John 10:12-13). He has no love for his people and he has been shaking the $money$ tree(1 Timothy 6:9-11) a lot over the past several months.-David J

1 Corinthians 13(NIV)

1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Here is another blog:FBC Jax Watchdog talking about Noble’s bad attitude:

“I think you officially suck as a human being if that is your focus…and the people that think the music is about them can leave the church.” Perry Noble’s message to church members who say they don’t prefer the music style at NewSpring Church.

It ain’t easy being a member these days at NewSpring Churchpastored by Perry Noble – the rules, the regulations, the sheep beatings, the curses.

According to Perry Noble, you “officially suck as a human being” if you express to Perry that you are purposely late to church because you like his preaching but don’t care for the music style.

NewSpring members need to be careful that their church doesn’t begin to fall into the category of a cult. Cults often begin by having a very demanding, charismatic leader, they will require conformity with rigid extra-biblical rules, they will devalue outsiders and non-conformists, and they will suppress dissent.

You see all four of these beginning to emerge at NewSpring. Not saying they are a cult, but when the charismatic leader starts telling people that :

– they can’t come back into the auditorium after the sermon starts even if they leave to tend to a child or go to the bathroom;

– that you suck as a human being if you disagree with the pastor over music styles;

– you are not allowed to designate how your donations are spent;

– you must give 10% of your income to the church undesignated or God will curse you;

– parents cannot bring children younger than 12 years of age into the church services;

– you must show up to church on time or you can’t get into the church service;

…then you better begin to get concerned.

Lest you think that I’m overstating things by bringing up the word “cult” – don’t forget what happened to a critic of Perry Noble’s at the hands of staff members a few years back that is the subject of an on-going lawsuit. You see from the “you suck as a human being” quote how those who even mildly express dissent are devalued by the pastor. I would say it is this kind of rhetoric from the pastor towards dissenters that breeds the actions taken by a staff member against the Noble critic back in 2008 and 2009.

Perry Noble even tells the parents that if they don’t conform to the “authority” of the church leaders, they will breed rebelliousness in the hearts of their children . No, actually subjecting one’s self to non-biblical requirements for the pleasure of the pastor might teach your kids that they must endure spiritual abuse at the hands of an over-bearing preacher.

If you’re interested, Chris Rosebrough has done an excellent review of this sermon that he has entitled “The Perry Noble Sheep Beating Incident of 2011.” You can listen to the entire Perry Noble sermon here, and click on the sermon “Frequently Asked Questions”.

Chris is right on in his analysis. This is classic sheep beating. A pastor is to be the picture of humility and servant-hood for the people he shepherds, but instead Perry Noble is a stand-up comedian who makes jokes about troublesome church members, denigrates Christians who disagree with him, and lays down extra-biblical rules that are burdensome on people.

Unfortunately in Perry Noble and other mega pastor superstars these days, we have professional religious men who have turned Christianity from its essence: the release of sinful men and women from the burden of having to try to please God with their works and their alms through simple faith in Christ – into a strict religious system that demands conformity to religious practices, tells people how they must think and what rules they must obey to be pleasing to God and their priest, and uses tactics of guilt and shame in the process. And, oh by the way, they get filthy rich while doing it.

I’m pretty sure that if Jesus were here, he would warn the people of NewSpring about the arrogant Perry Noble and his professional religious men and describe them as he did the Pharisees:

“They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger.” (Mat 23:4)(source)

I am so glad that more people are seeing Perry Noble and his inner circle as the snake oil salesmen that they are. As a former New$pring member from 2008-2009, I have personally felt the wrath of New$pring upon me when I spoke out against Perry Noble’s errors and bad attitude. Lucky for me, I did not end up being harassed like James Duncan. In my opinion, New$pring is closer to being a cult than most people realize.-David J

I guess if people give more money to New$pring it will go to fund more events like this:

So many New$pringer’s parrot Perry Noble when they comment to me about my criticism of New$pring Church. I get messages all the time saying,” Lives are being changed, thousands are coming to Christ, and God is moving” as evidence that Perry Noble is a true man of God.

I fully agree that lives are being changed at New$pring Church. Only a fool would say that lives are not being changed because of Perry Noble. What we must look at is the nature of these changes and what actually changed because of New$pring Church and Perry Noble.

Life changes:

A new routine included in your busy schedule called church every Sunday.

A new sense of self worth, purpose, and direction.

Giving 10% from your gross income as directed by the church.

Setting aside time to volunteering for something within the church.

Talking about Jesus and the inviting people to church.

While the above are very positive changes(minus the 10% tithe lie), it does not mean the message being preached by Perry Noble is correct.

Questions about the new life change:

Has anything changed in your life changed outside of the things listed above?

Are you still doing the same old things(social events etc.) as before since this new life change?

Is there any conviction over what you are currently doing or have done?

Is there a burning desire for holy living and living in a manner that is pleasing to God?

Has your life really changed outside of going to church, volunteering, giving 10% of your income to the church, and talking about Jesus?

The dangers of this “life change” gospel is that it’s not exclusive only to the Christian church. Many people experience a life changes all the time. When a person decides to become Mormon(Please visit this site for some great info on Mormons) they go through a life change. This conversion to Mormonism produces a very positive change to an individual. I can argue that Mormons are some of the best people I have encountered in my life. They are faithful to their church, friendly and kind, faithful to their god, they live clean godly lives, and they strictly follow the Great Commission(Matthew 28:16-20). All of these qualities I listed about the Mormon’s would indicate that “God is moving” according to seeker-sensitive dogma. Another fact when adding Mormon’s to this “life change” evidence of “God is moving” is the enormous number of members in the LDS! Surely God must be blessing the Mormon’s because they have 1.)Huge numbers and successful churches 2.) Lives are being changed 3.) Mormon’s volunteer and worship God.

Any Mormon can say that lives are being changed, marriages are being restored, and people are coming to Christ by the thousands. The fact is lives are being changed because of the Mormon church. Does this mean Mormons are Christians because we can see life changes that reflect Christian values?

There is power in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the center of that power is the atonement wrought by the Savior of the World.  “Understanding the Atonement of Christ and its relationship to our eternal existence is the greatest knowledge we can have in support of our quest to return to God, our Eternal Father.”(source)

If we base God’s blessings and evidence of salvation on the “seeker-sensitive” definition of regeneration, then we miss the point of the Gospel. Just because we have a life change does not mean this change was because the Holy Spirit. The evidence of a life change the Holy Spirit’s gives go far beyond just attending church, inviting people to church, and giving money to the church. The life change that God gives disrupts our love of the world, disrupts our love of self, and the things that are contrary to holy living. God’s life change sometimes causes problems with our family and friends because it changes us from the inside out. This new birth gives us conviction over sin and makes us sorrowful when we walk in sin. True salvation does not enable us to walk in the old ways while making excuses that it’s ok because we proclaim the name of Jesus. True salvation is not found in a program, alter call, saying,”Repeat after me, Jesus I accept you“, in a church denomination, etc… it is only by the drawing of the Holy Spirit through the preaching of the true Word of God.

So I ask again, has your life really changed outside of going to church, volunteering, giving 10% of your income to the church, and talking about Jesus?

Does sin bother you?

Is Jesus the Lord of your entire life or just the parts of it that make you feel good?

Matthew 7:21-23 (NASB)

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

The tithe is the point at which the prosperity gospel and the purpose driven churches meet and marry – ultimately because in each case what is being preached is that you make God indebted to you…and it lines the coffers to support all that high-end production. Ultimately, it would appear that the god being served – the way it’s being preached, at least – is a god of personal peace and comfort (Baal), and not the God of Heaven and Earth.- Barbara (source)

There is so much error and Scripture twisting done by Perry Noble in this small 3:13 minute video clip, I could easily spend many weeks rebuking it via this blog. This hireling will attack and say anything to general $$$$$ for his self-help center!

I challenge any Noble defender to look up all these passages CEO Noble referenced and simply read it in full context. Perry Noble depends on his people (you) being illiterate when it comes to the Holy Scriptures. It’s time for more of us to work hard studying the Word like the Bereans, instead of being lazy sheep who only care about getting a weekly dose of religion once a week from the pulpit/stage!

Acts 17:10-11

New International Version (NIV)

10 As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Here is a good article from In Weakness, Grace Abounds by Ron concerning tithing, Perry Noble, etc.

At any rate, cost what it may, to separate ourselves from those who separate themselves from the truth of God is not alone our liberty, but our duty. –C.H. Spurgeon

I found this today. I thought I would share it with my readers:

In recent weeks there has been an upsurge of discussion in regard to the Church Growth, Seeker and Emergent Church movements. Each of these movements, are to varying degrees, contra-biblical. If there is one common denominator in each it is the willful disregard for the biblical mandate to separate and come out from among apostate religions.

2 Corinthians 6:14-17

King James Version (KJV)

14Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

15And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

16And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

17Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

Among the Growth/Seeker/Emergent movements (such as Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven movement) it seems as if there is almost no mainline denomination, religion or organization to far removed from biblical Christianity to warrant rebuke and separation. The evidence shows that these movements prefer unity with apostasy at the expense of fidelity to God’s mandated course of action found in His Word.

“It has been said of Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) that he was the greatest preacher since the Apostle Paul. Spurgeon began preaching at the age of 16. At 25 he built London’s famous Metropolitan Tabernacle, seating around 5,000. It was never large enough for the crowds he attracted to hear him preach. Wherever he went in the United Kingdom thousands came to hear from him. The London newspapers reprinted his Sunday sermons, which were read by thousands. Spurgeon published thousands of devotionals, commentaries, poems, tracts, sermons and songs.” (In Defense of the Gospel, p. 55.)

In the Fundamentalist Distinctives thread at Sharper iron I have posted two excerpts from Spurgeon’s article, The Drift of the Times, published in 1888. I think it is befitting to post the article here, in its entirety.

The thrust and force of Spurgeon’s article is as timely today as it was nearly 120 years ago. Because of the insidious spread and attraction of the Growth, Seeker & Emergent movements The Drift of the Times may be more needed and applicable now than when it was originally published.

The Drift of the Times
Sound the Alarm!

Separation Not Alone Our Privilege But Our Duty

As soon as I saw, or thought I saw, that error had become firmly established, I did not deliberate but quitted the body at once. Since then my counsel has been, “Come ye out from among them.” If I have rejoiced in the loyalty to Christ’s truth which has been shown in other courses of action, yet I have felt that no protest could be equal to that of distinct separation from known evil.

The Brethren in the Middle

The brethren in the middle are the source of this clinging together of discordant elements. These who are for peace at any price, who persuade themselves that there is very little wrong, who care chiefly to maintain existing institutions, these are the good people who induce the weary combatants to repeat the futile attempt at a coalition which, in the nature of things, must break down. If both sides could be unfaithful to conscience, or if the glorious gospel could be thrust altogether out of the question, there might be a league of amity established; but as neither of these things can be, there would seem to be no reason for persevering in the attempt to maintain a confederacy for which there is no justification in fact and from which there can be no worthy result, seeing it does not embody a living truth. A desire for unity is commendable. Blessed are they who can promote it and preserve it! But there are other matters to be considered as well as unity, and sometimes these may even demand the first place.

Separation A Duty

Numbers of good brethren in different ways remain in fellowship with those who are undermining the Gospel; and they talk of their conduct as though it were a loving course of action which the Lord will approve of in the day of His appearing. We cannot understand them. The bounden duty of a true believer towards men who profess to be Christians and yet . . . reject the fundamentals of the Gospel is to come out from among them. . . . Complicity with error will take from the best of men the power to enter any successful protest against it. If any body of believers had errorists among them but were resolute to deal with them in the name of the Lord, all might come right; but confederacies founded upon the principle that all may enter, whatever views they hold, are based upon disloyalty to the truth of God. If truth is optional, error is justifiable.

The Army of Intermediates Should Cease Being Politic

There are now two parties in the religious world, and a great mixed multitude who from various causes decline to be ranked with either of them. In this army of intermediates are many who have no right to be there; but we spare them. The day will come, however, when they will have to reckon with their consciences. When the light is taken out of its place, they may too mourn that they were not willing to trim the lamp nor even to notice that the flame grew dim.

Our present sorrowful protest is not a matter of this man or that, this error or that, but of principle. There is either something essential to a true faith–some truth which is to be believed–or else everything is left to each man’s taste. We believe in the first of these opinions, and hence cannot dream of religious associations with those who might on the second theory be acceptable. Those who are of our mind should, at all costs, act upon it.

Separation, The Only Complete Protest

At any rate, cost what it may, to separate ourselves from those who separate themselves from the truth of God is not alone our liberty but our duty. I have raised my protest in the only complete way by coming forth, and I shall be content to abide alone until the day when the Lord shall judge the secrets of all hearts; but it will not seem to me a strange thing if others are found faithful and if others judge that for them also there is no path but that which is painfully apart from the beaten track.(source)
